<p>Sometimes it’s your keys. Other times it’s your glasses. Misplacing things happens all the time. If you misplace your iPhone or iPad, Find My iPhone can help you find it.<span id="more-181"></span><br />
<strong>Locate your iPhone or iPad on a map.<br />
</strong><br />
If you lose your iPhone or iPad, MobileMe can help you find it with Find My iPhone. Just enable Find My iPhone in MobileMe settings on your iPhone or iPad.* Then you can log in to me.com to access Find My iPhone and display its approximate location on a map.<br />
<strong>Set a passcode lock remotely.</strong></p>
<p>Once you realize you haven’t simply misplaced your iPhone or iPad at home under a pile of laundry, you may want to protect its contents until it’s safely back in your hands. Just sign in to your MobileMe account and remotely set a four-digit passcode lock to prevent people from using your iPhone or iPad, accessing your personal information, or tampering with your settings.<br />
Warning pop-up confirming the permanent deletion of all media, data, and settings from an iPhone<br />
<strong>Display a message or play a sound.</strong></p>
<p>Say you’ve just used the Find My iPhone feature, and it turns out your iPhone or iPad is at the doctor’s office. Not to worry. You can write a message that will be displayed on your iPhone or iPad — something like, “Oops! Left my iPhone behind. Blame it on the cold medicine. Be there ASAP to pick it up.” Your message appears on the screen, even if it’s locked. And if the map shows you that your iPhone or iPad is nearby, yet you still can’t find it, you can tell MobileMe to play a sound that overrides the ringer volume or silent setting on your device.<br />
<strong>Protect your privacy with Remote Wipe.</strong></p>
<p>Addresses, phone numbers, email, photos. Your iPhone or iPad contains important and personal information — information you probably don’t want in the hands of a stranger. So if you lose your iPhone or iPad and displaying a message on it hasn’t resulted in its safe return, you can initiate a remote wipe to restore it to the factory settings.* If you eventually find your iPhone or iPad, you can restore your email, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks by enabling your MobileMe account on your device. Or connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer and use iTunes to restore the data from your most recent backup.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You should be quite used to seeing pages load from scratch whenever a link is<br />
pressed, and you’ve likely become dependent on a few of the features of such a concept.<span id="more-170"></span><br />
With Ajax, however, if you scroll down on a page and dynamically load content in with,Ajax, it will not move you back to the top of the page. The page will sit exactly where it is and load the content in without much notification. A common problem with Ajax is that users simply don’t understand that anything has happened on the page.</p>
<p>Therefore, if Ajax is to be used as a navigational tool, it is important to note that not all page layouts will react well to such functionality.</p>
<p>In my experience, pages that rely upon navigational menus on the top of the screen (rather than at the bottom, in the content, or on the sides) and then load in content below it seem to function the best, as content is quite visible and obvious to the user.</p>
<p>Consider the following example, which shows a generic web page that loads in content via Ajax to display different information based on the link that has been clicked.</p>
<p>the code</p>
<pre id="line1">&lt;!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"&gt;
&lt;html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"&gt;
&lt;head&gt;
&lt;meta http-equiv="Content-Type" page="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /&gt;
&lt;title&gt;Basic Ajax&lt;/title&gt;

&lt;script type="text/javascript" &gt;
function getXMLHTTP() { //fuction to return the xml http object
var xmlhttp=false;
try{
xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
}
catch(e) {
try{
xmlhttp= new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
catch(e){
try{
req = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
}
catch(e1){
xmlhttp=false;
}
}
}
return xmlhttp;
}

function makerequest(serverPage, objID) {

var xmlhttp = getXMLHTTP();
var object = document.getElementById(objID);

if (xmlhttp) {
xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (xmlhttp.readyState == 4) {
object.innerHTML = xmlhttp.responseText;
}
}
xmlhttp.open("GET", serverPage, true);
xmlhttp.send(null);
}
}
&lt;/script&gt;

&lt;body onload="makerequest('page1.html','bg')"&gt;
&lt;div align="center"&gt;
&lt;h1&gt;Basic Ajax Example&lt;/h1&gt;
&lt;a href="<a href="view-source:file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Wella/My%20Documents/ajax/index.html#">#</a>" onclick="makerequest('page1.html','bg'); return false;"&gt; Page 1&lt;/a&gt; |
</pre>
<pre id="line51">&lt;a href="<a href="view-source:file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Wella/My%20Documents/ajax/page2.html">page2.html</a>" onclick="makerequest('page2.html','bg'); return false;"&gt; Page 2&lt;/a&gt; |
&lt;a href="<a href="view-source:file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Wella/My%20Documents/ajax/page3.html">page3.html</a>" onclick="makerequest('page3.html','bg'); return false;"&gt; Page 3&lt;/a&gt; |

&lt;div id="bg"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;/body&gt;
&lt;/html&gt;

and the content code

&lt;!-- page1.html --&gt;
&lt;div style="width:770px; text-align:left;"&gt;
&lt;h1&gt;Page 1&lt;/h1&gt;

fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in
culpa&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;

and go on till page 4
<a rel="attachment wp-att-173" href="http://www.babygore.com/basic-ajax-example/gbr/"><img class="size-medium wp-image-173 aligncenter" title="Ajax Example" src="http://www.babygore.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/gbr-300x142.jpg" alt="gbr 300x142 Basic Ajax Example" width="300" height="142" /></a>
by making use of Ajax, you can create a fully functional,
Ajax navigation–driven site in a manner of minutes. You include the JavaScript required
to process the links into &lt;script&gt; tags in the head, and can then make use of the
makerequest() function at any time to send a server-side request to the web server
without refreshing the page. You can call the makerequest() function on any event (you
are using onclick() here) to load content into the respective object that is passed to
the function.

Using this method to handle navigation is a very nice way to produce a solid break
between content and design, as well as create a fast-loading web site. Because the design
wrapper only needs to be created once (and content can be loaded on the fly), users will
find less lag when viewing the web site, and have a seamless page in front of them at all
times. While those users without a fast Internet connection typically have to wait while a
site loads using traditional linking methods, they won’t have to wait with Ajax. Using the
Ajax method allows the content being retrieved from the server to be loaded with little to
no obtrusive maneuvering of the web page that the user is viewing.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have read many articles and blog postings from so-called &#8220;experts&#8221; that a dealer&#8217;s website meta tags are not important. Saying that a dealer&#8217;s website meta tags are not important enough to bother with should be your first clue that maybe the person is not such an expert after all. <span id="more-167"></span>We have seen numerous situations where dealers have unintentionally lost their organic search engine rankings because they were messing around with their website&#8217;s meta tags! I have seen and experienced multiple SEO disasters caused by the wrong person making the wrong changes to the site or page&#8217;s title tag&#8230; Small changes to your meta tags can result in either positive or negative changes to your organic search engine rankings. Some dealers have seen dramatic search engine ranking increases when they assign the right person or supplier to the job and that person or supplier goes in and optimize the dealer&#8217;s website pages, including the Meta Tags.</p>
<p>Of all the various categories of Meta Tags, Title tags continue to be the most important tag to consider in a dealer&#8217;s SEO strategy and implementation. Each individual page within a dealer&#8217;s website should have its own set of title tags. Dealers should Include at least one complete instance of your SEO targeted keyword phrase in your title tag. Incorporating keywords in web page Title Tags is a major part of what SEO programs need to execute for two primary reasons.</p>
<p>First, Title Tag keyword content is important to all three major search engines. Second, Title Tag content is what normally shows up in the listing verbiage describing each search engine results.</p>
<p>Even the lowly &#8220;alt&#8221; meta tags are important, yet alt tags are consistently overlooked by website supplier production teams when they are creating web pages. Relevant search keyword alt tags are very important and easy to include in dealer websites.</p>
<p>Most successful search engine optimization strategies seek to make small ongoing modifications to parts of a dealer&#8217;s website. When I look at the typical SEO adjustments made in any given month, the changes made usually seem like nominal improvements, but when combined with other onsite optimization tactics, they often times have a notable impact on a dealership&#8217;s site performance in organic search results. Since time is money, and search optimization of Meta Tags takes time, it is misleading to say that SEO tactics generate free traffic. But, when compared to all other competing uses of time and money, SEO can yield dramatic returns on investment&#8230; If whoever is doing it incorporates the site&#8217;s Meta Tags into the SEO adjustments made each month.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Now i will explain bout print.css and ie.css</p>
<p>As I mentioned earlier, this file serves to define the style as the visitors hit the site using the function &#8220;Print&#8221;. Certainly when you print a website, one thought was worth inculcated: &#8220;How to view this website worth reading on paper?&#8221;.<span id="more-161"></span></p>
<p>Therefore, the floating element is not recommended because of the wide variety of paper is not sufficient to print a web page. Clear colors and a black monotone contrived to overcome the problem is not color printers. To distinguish between links, applied text-decoration: underline. The elements of the background color or image is also eliminated for the same reason. Simple and easy to read, that the whole point:)</p>
<p>When designing a website likened to the desert, then this file is oasisnya. Time spent by the website designer mostly for debugging in Internet Explorer browser, version 8 main downward. I do not need to explain what&#8217;s in this one by one. The point is, do not replace the existing one in this file, all of these codes have been tried in various versions of IE. Well, if you want to search for survivors, mending do not change : D<br />
<strong>Conclusion </strong><br />
Use and modify CSS code in three files as necessary because not all needed in the design of your website. This applies also to other CSS Framework. Hopefully this article can help you. And wish in the near future I can understand and implement Ruby scripts contained in this framework. : D</p>
<p>PS: there are some plugins in the bundle was Blueprint CSS that may be useful for you. Plugin example RTL (Right to Left) for setting CSS with content that is read from right, is useful for writing Arabic or Hebrew.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Before we go to learn how to used blue print let me introduce what is CSS Frame work. CSS Framework is a good tool for web developers to use CSS without having to go into the syntax of CSS. There are several CSS Framework is available for free on the internet. Some of them are made by the site that no longer foreign to you: Google and Yahoo.<span id="more-159"></span></p>
<p>This tutorial specially covered about CSS codes that already contained in the Blueprint CSS. About the use of additional Ruby scripts that are included in the bundle of this framework will be discussed in more advanced session (when I was able to use Ruby: D).</p>
<p>This tutorial consists of 3 pages.<br />
Getting Source Code Blueprint CSS</p>
<p>Blueprint can be accessed and downloaded via <a href="http://www.blueprintcss.org/">Blueprintcss.org</a>. site. You will be served by the ZIP or TAR file which then need software to open decompressor. Fortunately every Operating System (XP, Mac, Linux) already have it, so I assume you are open and extract the file.</p>
<p>For this tutorial, please direct to the folder &#8220;blueprint&#8221; and saw the three CSS files in the folder. Blueprint-style shared their CSS style into 3 files:</p>
<p>1. screen.css: CSS role to determine the layout as you see on your screen right now. This file is used for media type &#8220;screen&#8221; and &#8220;projection&#8221;, this includes all types of screens that projected from a PC or laptop. More information can be seen in the following description of this media type.<br />
2. print.css: Like screen.css, only this time aimed at the media printing. This style appears when you press the &#8220;Print&#8221; on your browser.<br />
3. ie.css: Style is intended specifically for Internet Explorer (IE). For those who do not know, IE is the browser besutan giant Microsoft. This browser has a problem in piles that always comes up every time a new update.</p>
<p>Many of the rules agreed at the World Wide Web Consortium (a consortium led every website that you see in this world the same in any browser) does not apply to IE browsers.</p>
<p>Because of the nature of IE is inconsistent, then almost every website has a &#8220;special rules&#8221; to improve the appearance of the IE browser. Because after all, IE users in the world is still very much considering that IE is the browser gained by users of Windows directly from CD / DVD installation.</p>
<p>To use it, enter the following code in the head tag:</p>
<p><em>&lt;link rel=&#8221;stylesheet&#8221; href=&#8221;css/blueprint/screen.css&#8221; type=&#8221;text/css&#8221; media=&#8221;screen, projection&#8221;&gt;<br />
&lt;link rel=&#8221;stylesheet&#8221; href=&#8221;css/blueprint/print.css&#8221; type=&#8221;text/css&#8221; media=&#8221;print&#8221;&gt;<br />
&lt;!&#8211;[ if lt IE 8]&gt;<br />
&lt;link rel=&#8221;stylesheet&#8221; href=&#8221;css/blueprint/ie.css&#8221; type=&#8221;text/css&#8221; media=&#8221;screen, projection&#8221;&gt;<br />
&lt;! [endif] -&gt;</em></p>
<p>The media attribute is used to reinforce the use of CSS. Print.css placed after screen.css order to definite the re CSS rules on printing media.</p>
<p>While ie.css placed in the Conditional Comment. Conditional Comment can only be seen by the IE browser. This is because IE renders web pages with different methods with other browsers. &#8220;Gaffe&#8221; this is precisely the gap that used the website designers to fix these mess.</p>
<p>Now for next step i introduce to u what is screen.css</p>
<p>If you look at the contents of the file screen.css, all styles are neatly arranged according to function:). Imagine how much time you can save from writing CSS from scratch! Not to mention the debugging process annoying IE browser. : D.</p>
<p>The following description of an explanation based stylesheet functions:<br />
Reset CSS</p>
<p>The contents of the CSS Reset function is more or less the same as the other CSS Reset as I explained earlier in this article. Generally CSS Reset function to set the CSS standards so that every browser has a stylesheet to the same standards.</p>
<p>It is recommended that you do not tamper with any of the CSS Reset. Because each style is defined in Blueprint CSS is based on the CSS Reset has been made.<br />
Typography</p>
<p>As the name implies, typography set the rules for the use of CSS properties that have an effect on the type and style of the letter. Properties defined in this section are:</p>
<p>1. font-family<br />
2. font-style<br />
3. font-weight<br />
4. font-size<br />
5. color<br />
6. line-height<br />
7. margin<br />
8. padding</p>
<p>Blueprint also added classes that also serves to give a special accent on a particular function:</p>
<p>1. . small, to decrease the font size<br />
2. large, to enlarge the font size<br />
3. . hide, to hide certain elements<br />
4. . quiet, to give accent &#8220;quiet&#8221; by giving the font color of the very young<br />
5. . loud, to give accent &#8220;loud&#8221; by giving the font color of very bright<br />
6. . highlights, to give marks on the writing<br />
7. . added, useful to inform that a data has been added<br />
8. . removed, useful to inform that the data was deleted<br />
9. . first,. last,. top,. bottom is still not clear to me why. But viewed from the css seem to control where the floating element. If anyone knows, once commented, well. <img src='http://www.babygore.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif' alt='8)' class='wp-smiley' title="What is Blueprint css framework and how to used it" /> </p>
<p>Forms</p>
<p>This CSS defines the style-specific style for form elements. These elements are:</p>
<p>1. labels<br />
2. fieldset<br />
3. legend<br />
4. input (to type text, password, radio buttons and checkboxes)<br />
5. textarea<br />
6. form</p>
<p>Special classes for form elements in CSS are:</p>
<p>1. .error, to provide information &#8220;Error&#8221; when submit form<br />
2. .notice, to provide notification when filling out the form<br />
3. .success, to provide information &#8220;Success&#8221; at the time of submit the form</p>
<p><strong>Grid</strong></p>
<p>CSS is often a major reason why people use CSS Grid Framework for functions to determine the size and position of the element. Properties that are often encountered on this Grid are:</p>
<p>1. float (left or right)<br />
2. clear<br />
3. margin<br />
4. padding</p>
<p>In the Grid there is a bunch of CSS class. Very many, detailed, and each class has a characteristic of each. But still can be classified into the following list:</p>
<p>1. p-#, function determines the size of the element width. Example. P-1, will give width of 30 pixels. When juxtaposed with elements of form, will set the length of each box-based form elements (input type text, password, submit, and textarea)<br />
2. append-#, serves to give the right padding to the box-based elements of a particular pixel. Named &#8220;append&#8221; because of the addition is &#8220;after&#8221; content.<br />
3. prepend-#, the opposite of append, prepend it to add the left padding.<br />
4. div.border, provides for the right border column<br />
5. div.colborder, also provides the right border, but more to add right padding to create a more spacious impression<br />
6. pull-#, giving a negative left margin to give the impression of &#8220;attracted&#8221; to the left<br />
7. Push-#, the opposite of the pull, push the left margin positive gave to give the impression &#8220;pushed&#8221; to the right<br />
8. prepend-append-top and bottom, providing padding in accordance with their respective names<br />
9. clear, clearfix, hr, hr.space; serves to &#8220;clean up&#8221; the layout of the floating elements</p>
<p>One thing to note for Blueprint CSS is the assumption that the width of the website is 950pixel (can be seen in class. Container). It is worth noting for the website developer that the classes in this Grid can function optimally for the website by 950 pixels wide. You may add or reduce the width of your website. However noteworthy that some classes have a large width, for example. Prepend-23 has a left padding of 920 pixels certainly not good for the website is only 900 pixels wide.</p>
<p>I personally have never used Grid CSS because too many classes are &#8220;not necessary&#8221;. In a sense, I would not use all 100% p-# or append-# into my designs. Better allocation of the excess space is distributed to my class with all the necessary measures. <img src='http://www.babygore.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' title="What is Blueprint css framework and how to used it" /> But this is only a matter of preference only, you are certainly free to use these classes.</p>
<p>to be continued</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>making your own 404 page on joomla site, to make your visitor feel comfortable, even if they are on the 404 error page</p>
<p>here the step and some explanation</p>
<h3>The 404 error page without Joomla</h3>
<p id="gallery"><a href="http://www.blackroseart.co.cc/img/images/firefox404.gif"><img src="http://www.blackroseart.co.cc/img/thumbs/firefox404.gif" alt="firefox 404 error page" width="120" height="58" align="left" title="Create a custom Joomla 404 component not found page" /></a>When visitor try to reach page that doesn&#8217;t exist on your site, he/she will see the &#8220;page not found&#8221; error page. This page is known as 404 page. What visitor will see, depends of browser he/she is using. The page is not user-friendly, and what&#8217;s more important for you, the visitor will probably leave your site after experiencing such error. Here&#8217;s how such error page looks in Firefox 3 with Google Toolbar installed.<span id="more-147"></span></p>
<h3>The 404 error page with Joomla</h3>
<p id="gallery"><a href="http://www.blackroseart.co.cc/img/images/joomla1540.gif"><img src="http://www.blackroseart.co.cc/img/images/joomla1540.gif" alt="joomla default 404 error page" width="120" height="64" align="left" title="Create a custom Joomla 404 component not found page" /></a>Joomla installed on your server will change default browser&#8217;s 404 page to something what you can see on this picture. It&#8217;s not perfect, but still better than default browser error page. At least, there&#8217;s a link that leads to the home page of your web site. Not bad, but could be much better.</p>
<h3>Why is 404 page important? Why we are talking about it at all?</h3>
<p id="gallery"><a href="http://www.blackroseart.co.cc/img/images/sstats.gif"><img src="http://www.blackroseart.co.cc/img/images/sstats.gif" alt="statistics about 404 errors" width="120" height="70" align="left" title="Create a custom Joomla 404 component not found page" /></a>Look at the statistics of your web site if you can. You would be surprised how much hits had 404 error response code, even if all links on your web site are correct. So, where they come from:</p>
<ul>
<li>Out of date bookmarks in visitors&#8217; browsers</li>
<li>Search engines didn&#8217;t update their listings for your web site yet</li>
<li>Visitor mistype address when entering it directly in browser</li>
<li>Web sites that link to your site have wrong or out of date links</li>
<li>Many other reasons, but above 4 are enough for you to get many 404 error response codes</li>
</ul>
<h3>What the 404 page should do?</h3>
<ul>
<li>Make visitors feel comfortable, even if they are on the 404 error page</li>
<li>Keep visitors on your web site by referring them to the other pages. Good idea might be a search feature on the 404 page, so they can find what they are looking for fast and easy, without leaving your website and looking for the resource somewhere else</li>
</ul>
<h3>Create a custom  &#8220;Joomla 404 component not found&#8221; page</h3>
<p>First, in Joomla administration panel create a content page where visitors will be redirected after 404 error. Some nice examples of such pages can be found <a href="http://www.404errorpages.com/examples/" target="_blank">here</a>. Use Google to find even more examples. Assign a menu item to the page, and place it in a hidden menu (a menu which module is not published). Now, you have a link for this page that looks as a regular Joomla article link. It can be with SEO enabled or without it.</p>
<h3>Change default &#8220;Joomla 404 component not found&#8221; page</h3>
<p>The &#8220;system&#8221; template is included in the Joomla 1.5 installation. The file error.php located in &lt;JOOMLA_ROOT&gt;/templates/system handles display of error pages. In the beginning of this file, you should make a redirection to the custom 404 page you created. So, open it in editor and after line</p>
<p><em>defined( &#8216;_JEXEC&#8217; ) or die( &#8216;Restricted access&#8217; );</em></p>
<p>add code:</p>
<p><em>if (($this-&gt;error-&gt;code) == &#8216;404&#8242;) {<br />
echo file_get_contents(&#8216;http://www.yourwebsite.com/your_custom_404_page&#8217;);<br />
}<br />
else<br />
{</em></p>
<p>Redirection will be made only if type of error is 404, so you should finish if-then statement by adding</p>
<p><em>&lt;?php<br />
}<br />
?&gt;</em></p>
<p>at the end of this file.</p>
<p>Since we are editing a template that comes with Joomla, it&#8217;s possible that it will be changed in some of the next revisions of Joomla core. Remember to re-apply this hack after upgrade, if needed.</p>
<p><a class="a2a_dd addtoany_share_save" href="http://www.addtoany.com/share_save?linkurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.babygore.com%2Fcreate-a-custom-joomla-404-component-not-found-page%2F&amp;linkname=Create%20a%20custom%20Joomla%20404%20component%20not%20found%20page"><img src="http://www.babygore.com/wp-content/plugins/add-to-any/share_save_171_16.png" width="171" height="16" alt="Share/Bookmark"/></a></p>]]></content:encoded>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was looking some html5 and css3 resource and tuttorial and found this great article maybe i will repost in here.</p>
<p>Much of <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5’s feature set involves JavaScript <abbr>API</abbr>s that make it easier to develop interactive web pages but there are a slew of new elements that allow you extra semantics in your conventional Web 1.0 pages. In order to investigate these, let’s look at marking up a blog.<span id="more-143"></span></p>
<p>Firstly what we’ll do is use the <code><span>header</span></code>, <code><span>footer</span></code>, <code><span>and</span><span> nav </span></code>elements to mark up the broad structure of the page. We’ll make the blog comments form much smarter by using the new data types and built-in validation available in <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5-aware browsers.</p>
<p>Then we’ll do some work on the guts of the page, using <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5’s <code><span>article</span></code> elements to better mark up blog posts and comments and show how to use the <code><span>section</span></code> elements to better structure accessible hierarchical headings on sites that are <abbr>CMS</abbr>-driven. As blogs are chronologically ordered, we’ll see what <abbr>HTML 5</abbr> offers us for representing dates and times.</p>
<p>So take the phone of the hook, and make a cup of tea and we’ll get started.</p>
<h2>Setting the DOCTYPE</h2>
<p><abbr>HTML</abbr> 5, when used as plain <abbr>HTML</abbr> rather than its <abbr>XHTML</abbr> 5 sibling doesn’t need a DOCTYPE. But all browsers do, otherwise they go into <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quirks_mode">Quirksmode</a>, which you don’t want: the collision of <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 and Quirksmode is like matter and anti-matter meeting, and will cause a negative reality inversion that will make your underwear catch fire.</p>
<p>You’ve been warned, so at the top of your document, you need the line <code><span>&lt;!DOCTYPE html&gt;</span></code>.</p>
<p>Some sites “use” <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5, when in actual fact all they’ve done is take their existing code and change the DOCTYPE. That’s fine and dandy if you’ve been using valid, semantic code as <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 is very similar to valid <abbr>HTML</abbr> 4.01. <a href="http://meyerweb.com/eric/thoughts/2009/01/02/an-event-apart-and-html-5/">Eric Meyer mentions small differences</a> like “not permitting a value attribute on an image submit”, and there are a few differences between the languages, summarised in the document <a href="http://dev.w3.org/html5/html4-differences/">HTML 5 differences from HTML 4</a>.</p>
<p>However, I don’t want simply to rebadge my existing code, but to use some of the new structural elements now.</p>
<h2>Using some new structural elements</h2>
<p>My blog – like millions of others – has a header denoted by <code><span>&lt;div </span><span>id</span><span>=</span><span>"header"</span><span>&gt;</span></code>, a footer <code><span>&lt;div </span><span>id</span><span>=</span><span>"footer"</span><span>&gt;</span></code>, some articles (wrapped by an area called “content”, <code><span>&lt;div </span><span>id</span><span>=</span><span>"content"</span><span>&gt;</span></code>) and some navigation (wrapped up in an area called “sidebar” <code><span>&lt;div </span><span>id</span><span>=</span><span>"sidebar"</span><span>&gt;</span></code>). Most sites on the Web have similar constructs, although depending on your choice they might be called &#8220;branding&#8221; or &#8220;info&#8221; or &#8220;menu&#8221;, or you might use the equivalent words in your own language.</p>
<p>Although these all have very different functions within the page, they use the same generic <code><span>div</span></code> in the markup. as <abbr>HTML 4</abbr> has no other way to code them. <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 has new elements for distinguishing these logical areas: <code><span>header</span></code>, <code><span>nav</span></code>, <code><span>footer</span></code> and friends. (There’s more on this in an artice by Lachlan Hunt on A List Apart: <a href="http://www.alistapart.com/articles/previewofhtml5">A Preview of <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5</a>.)</p>
<p>The overall aim is to replace this structure:</p>
<p><img src="http://html5doctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/html5-before1.gif" alt="structure chart before redesign" title="Making Html5 + Css3 Blog Design" /></p>
<p>with this:</p>
<p><img src="http://html5doctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/html5-after1.gif" alt="structure chart after redesign" title="Making Html5 + Css3 Blog Design" /></p>
<p>It’s a simple matter to change the <abbr>HTML</abbr> <code><span>div</span></code>s into the new elements. The only difficulty I had was deciding which element to use to mark up my sidebar, as it also includes a search field and “colophon” information as well as site-wide navigation. I decided against the <code><span>aside</span></code> element, as <a href="http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#the-aside-element">the spec says</a> it “represents a section of a page that consists of content that is tangentially related to the content around the aside element, and which could be considered separate from that content”, but it’s nevertheless <em>content</em> rather than navigation. So I decided to go for the <code><span>nav</span></code> element as the closest fit.</p>
<p>I’ve wrapped the main content in a <code><span>section</span></code> element (previously I’d kept it as a <code><span>div</span></code>). <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/semantics.html#the-section-element"><code><span>section</span></code> is defined</a> in the spec</p>
<blockquote cite="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/semantics.html#the-section-element"><p>The section element represents a generic document or application section. A section, in this context, is a thematic grouping of content, typically with a heading, possibly with a footer.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Please note: I no longer recommend wrapping the whole content area in a <code><span>section</span></code> element, and suggest that you use a <code><span>div</span></code> element. Read more about <a href="http://html5doctor.com/the-section-element">using section appropriately</a>.</strong></p>
<p>In this case, the “generic document section” is that of main content. I’ve retained an <code><span>id</span></code> so that a <a href="http://juicystudio.com/article/skip-links.php">skip links</a> feature will work, although I hope that in the future, assistive technology will offer an automatic way for people to go to the first <code><span>section</span></code> or <code><span>article</span></code>.</p>
<p>My fellow <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 doctor, Remy Sharp, also notes that if you retain the <code><span>div</span></code>, Internet Explorer without JavaScript would style the div, but none of the other content, making the site very hard to read.</p>
<h2>New form attributes</h2>
<p>As well as the main structural item on the page, I’ve added some new attributes on <code><span>input</span></code> elements in the comments form.</p>
<p><abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 was designed to reflect what developers actually do rather than to reflect a philosophical purity, and that’s very clearly manifested in the new attributes which mean the browser takes up much of the work currently done by developers re-inventing validation routines in JavaScript. (Extending forms functionality was <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/introduction.html#history-0">how the <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 spec began</a>).</p>
<p>So I amended the email input field in the comments to be <code><span>input type</span><span>=</span><span>"email"</span></code> which means that when the user submits the form, an <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5-aware browser will use built-in validation routines to check that it’s in the correct format, without any JavaScript. Check it out in the current version of <a href="http://www.opera.com/">Opera</a>, as that the only full implementation at the time of writing (June 2009), and note that it also adds a “mail” icon in the input field as a cue to the user.</p>
<p>There are similar input validation routines triggered by some of the new <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/forms.html#attr-input-type"><code><span>input</span></code> types</a>, such as <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/forms.html#url-state"><code><span>url</span></code></a> (which I use on the field that asks for the user’s web address), <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/forms.html#number-state"><code><span>number</span></code></a> and <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/forms.html#attr-input-pattern"><code><span>pattern</span></code></a> which compares the input with an arbitrary regular expression.</p>
<p>Another good example is <code><span>input type</span><span>=</span><span>"date"</span></code>, which pops up a calendar widget/ date picker when the user focusses on the input field. You can <a href="http://people.opera.com/brucel/demo/html5-forms-demo.html">test the date picker</a>, or here’s a screenshot from Opera 9.6:</p>
<p><img src="http://html5doctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/html5-form-date.gif" alt="date picker pops up next to input field" title="Making Html5 + Css3 Blog Design" /></p>
<p>A very useful new attribute I used on both <code><span>input</span></code> fields for commenter’s name and email address, and the comment <code><span>textarea</span></code> was <code><span>type</span><span>=</span><span>"required"</span></code> which generates a message on submission if the fields are left blank. Each different localisation of a browser would need to have a different message, and it’s not (so far) customisable by the developer.</p>
<p><img src="http://html5doctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/html5-required-feedback.gif" alt="red-bordered browser message 'You have to specify a value'" title="Making Html5 + Css3 Blog Design" /></p>
<p>The good thing with all this new form fabulousness is it’s all formed around new attributes on an exisiting element, so people using older browsers just see a plain old <code><span>input</span></code> field.</p>
<h3>A note on screenreaders and <abbr>HTML 5</abbr></h3>
<p>I hope screenreaders are ready for these new interactions; I asked the html 5 group to formally <a href="http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2007Jul/1249.html">invite screenreader vendors to participate</a> in the specification; to my knowledge, <a href="http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html/2008Aug/0795.html">none have done so</a>.</p>
<h2>Laying out the new elements</h2>
<p>It’s not too hard to layout the new elements. In all the non-<abbr>IE</abbr> browsers, you can lay out anything using <abbr>CSS</abbr> – even a <a href="http://people.opera.com/brucel/demo/html5-nonsense-element.html">nonsense element</a>. One gotcha is that that the current crop of browsers have no “knowledge” of these elements, although <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_layout_engines_%28HTML_5%29">support is improving all the time</a>.</p>
<p>All browsers have default settings for the elements they “know about”—how much padding, margin they element gets, does it display as a block or inline?. (Here’s a <a href="http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/sample.html">sample default stylesheet</a>.) Unless over-ridden by <abbr>CSS</abbr>, these defaults apply. But the browsers don’t know about <code><span>header</span></code>, <code><span>nav</span></code> and the like, so have no defaults to apply to them.</p>
<p>I got terrible rendering oddities until I explicitly told the browsers</p>
<pre><code><span>header</span><span>,</span><span> footer</span><span>,</span><span> nav</span><span>,</span><span> article </span><span>{</span><span>display</span><span>:</span><span>block</span><span>;}</span></code></pre>
<h3><abbr>IE</abbr> layout</h3>
<p>There’s one gotcha about styling <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 pages in <abbr>IE</abbr>: it doesn’t work. You can force it to quite easily with a JavaScript hack <code><span>document</span><span>.</span><span>createElement</span><span>(</span><span>'element name'</span><span>)</span></code>. (Lachlan Hunt gets to the bottom of <a href="http://blog.whatwg.org/supporting-new-elements-in-ie">why IE needs this</a>.)</p>
<p>For your convenience, Remy Sharp has written an <a href="http://remysharp.com/2009/01/07/html5-enabling-script/"><abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 enabling script</a> which I use in the header to conjure all the missing elements into existence all at once.</p>
<p>But let’s be clear: <strong>this won’t work if your <abbr>IE</abbr> user doesn’t have JavaScript turned on</strong>. How much of that’s a big deal that is for you to decide. Pragmatically, it seems to me that the sites that will benefit the most from HTML 5’s new “Ajax”-style features, such as drag-and-drop, are the sites that currently have no hope of working without JavaScript.</p>
<h3>Firefox 2 and Camino 1 layout</h3>
<p>Firefox 2 and Camino 1 both use Gecko 1.9 which has a bug and so gets grumpy if you don’t serve the page as <abbr>XHTML</abbr>. (Go figure; that’s almost enough to trigger a negative reality inversion and you know how bad that can be). However, Firefox and Camino users upgrade frequently so Firefox is in version 3, while Camino 2 beta is out, so the problem will soon cease to exist. (Read more at <a href="http://html5doctor.com/how-to-get-html5-working-in-ie-and-firefox-2/">How to get HTML5 working in IE and Firefox 22</a> by Remy Sharp.)</p>
<h2>What’s the point of those new structural elements?</h2>
<p>Well, they add semantics to the page. The browser now knows which area of your site is the header or the footer because there are <code><span>header</span></code> and <code><span>footer</span></code> elements, whereas <code><span>div</span></code> might be called “branding” and “legal”, or even “<span lang="fr">en-tete</span>” and “<span lang="fr">pied-de-page</span>” or “<span lang="de">kopfzeile</span>” and “<span lang="de">fusszeile</span>“.</p>
<p>But <em>so what</em>?</p>
<p>Robin Berjon expressed it beautifully in a <a href="http://www.alistapart.com/comments/semanticsinhtml5?page=2#12">comment on <cite>A List Apart</cite></a>:</p>
<blockquote cite="http://www.alistapart.com/comments/semanticsinhtml5?page=2#12"><p>Pretty much everyone in the Web community agrees that “semantics are yummy, and will get you cookies”, and that’s probably true. But once you start digging a little bit further, it becomes clear that very few people can actually articulate a reason why. So before we all go another round on this, I have to ask: what’s it you wanna do with them darn semantics?</p>
<p>The general answer is “to repurpose content”. That’s fine on the surface, but you quickly reach a point where you have to ask “repurpose to what?” … I think <abbr>HTML</abbr> should add only elements that either expose functionality that would be pretty much meaningless otherwise (e.g. <code><span>canvas</span></code>) or that provide semantics that help repurpose for Web browsing uses.</p></blockquote>
<p>In my view, there are a couple of things I want to do with those semantics. The first is for search engine use; it’s easy to imagine Messrs Google or Yahoo! giving lower weighting to content in <code><span>footer</span></code> elements, or extra weight to content in the <code><span>header</span></code>. The second reason is to make the site navigable for people with disabilities. People with learning difficulties might instruct their browser always to put the articles before the navigation, for example. User agents might very well have a keyboard shortcut which jumped straight to the <code><span>nav</span></code> for example, or jumped straight past the navigation, in a programmatic implementation of “<a href="http://juicystudio.com/article/skip-links.php">skip links</a>“.</p>
<p>Which brings me to…</p>
<h2>Further refining the <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 structure</h2>
<h3>The blog home page</h3>
<p>An interesting thing about a blog homepage is that there are generally the last 5 or so posts, each with a heading, a &#8220;body&#8221; and data about the post (time, who wrote it, how many comments etc.) and usually a link to another page that has the full blog post (if the homepage just showed an excerpt) and its comments.</p>
<p><abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 has an <a href="http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#the-article-element"><code><span>article</span></code> element</a> which I use to wrap each story:</p>
<blockquote cite="http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#the-article-element"><p>The article element represents a section of a page that consists of a composition that forms an independent part of a document, page, or site. This could be a forum post, a magazine or newspaper article, a Web log entry, a user-submitted comment, or any other independent item of content.</p></blockquote>
<p>Let’s look in more detail at the guts of how I mark up each blogpost.</p>
<h3>Anatomy of a blog post</h3>
<p><img src="http://html5doctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/html5-article-outline.gif" alt="diagram of article structure; explanation follows" title="Making Html5 + Css3 Blog Design" /></p>
<p>The wrapper is no longer a generic <code><span>div</span></code> but an <code><span>article</span></code>. Within that is a <code><span>header</span></code>, comprising a heading (the title of the blogpost) and then the time of publication, marked up using the <code><span>time</span></code> element.</p>
<p>Then there are the pearls of wit and wisdom that consitute each of my posts, marked up as paragraphs, blockquotes etc., and is pulled unchanged out of the database. Following that is data about the blog post (category, how many comments) marked up as a footer and, in the case of pages that show a single blogpost, there are comments expressing undying admiration and love. Finally, there may be navigation from one article to the next.</p>
<h4>Data about the article</h4>
<p>Following the content there is some “metadata” about the post: what category it’s in, how many comments there are. I’ve marked this up as <code><span>footer</span></code>. I previously used <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/#the-aside-element"><code><span>aside</span></code></a> which “represents a section of a page that consists of content that is tangentially related to the content around the aside element, and which could be considered separate from that content” but decided that it was too much of a stretch; data <em>about</em> a post is intimately related.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/#the-footer-element"><code><span>footer</span></code></a> is a much better fit: “A footer typically contains information about its section such as who wrote it, links to related documents, copyright data, and the like.” I was initially thrown off-course by the presentational name of the element; my use here isn’t at the bottom of the page, or even at the bottom of the article, but it certainly seems to fit the bill – it’s information about its section, containing author name, links to related documents (comments) and the like. There’s no reason that you can’t have more than one <code><span>footer</span></code> on page; the spec’s description says &#8220;the footer element represents a footer for the section it applies to&#8221; and a page may have any number of sections. The spec also says &#8220;Footers don’t necessarily have to appear at the end of a section, though they usually do.&#8221;</p>
<h4>Comments</h4>
<p>I’ve marked up comments as <code><span>article</span></code>s, too, as the spec says that an <code><span>article</span></code> could be “a user-submitted comment”, but nested these inside the parent <code><span>article</span></code>. The spec says</p>
<blockquote cite="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/semantics.html#the-article-element"><p>When article elements are nested, the inner article elements represent articles that are in principle related to the contents of the outer article. For instance, a Web log entry on a site that accepts user-submitted comments could represent the comments as article elements nested within the article element for the Web log entry.</p></blockquote>
<p>These are headed with the date and the time of the comment and name of its author—if you want, you can wrap these in a <code><span>header</span></code>, too, but to me it seems like markup for the sake of it.</p>
<h4>Times and dates</h4>
<p>Most blogs, news sites and the like provide dates of article publication.</p>
<p>Microformats people, the most vocal advocates of marking up dates and times, believe that computer-formatted dates are best for people: their <a href="http://microformats.org/wiki/index.php?title=date-design-pattern&amp;diff=37974&amp;oldid=34166">wiki says</a> “the ISO8601 YYYY-MM-DD format for dates is the best choice that is the most accurately readable for the most people worldwide, and thus the most accessible as well”. I don’t agree (and neither do candidates in my vox pop of non-geeks, my wife, brother and parents).</p>
<p>I do agree with the microformats people that <a href="http://microformats.org/wiki/principles">hidden metadata is not as good as visible, human-readable data</a> and therefore elected not to use the <a href="http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/semantics.html#the-article-element"><code><span>pubdate</span></code> attribute of <code><span>article</span></code></a>.</p>
<p>Therefore I’ve used the <abbr>HTML</abbr> 5 <code><span>time</span></code> element to give a machine parsable date to computers, while giving people a human-readable date. Blog posts get the date, while comments get the date and time.</p>
<p>The spec is quite hard to understand, in my opinion, but the format you use is 2004-02-28T15:19:21+00:00, where T separates the date and the time, and the + (or a -) is the offset from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time"><abbr>UTC</abbr></a>. Dates on their own don’t need a timezone; full datetimes do. Oddly, the spec suggests that if you use a time without a date, you don’t need a timezone either.</p>
<p>There’s considerable controversy over the time element at the moment. Recently one of the inner circle, <a href="http://lists.whatwg.org/htdig.cgi/whatwg-whatwg.org/2009-March/018687.html">Henri Sivonen, wrote</a> that it’s for marking up future events only and not for timestamping blogs or news items: “The expected use cases of hCalendar are mainly transferring <em>future</em> event entries from a Web page into an application like iCal.&#8221; This seems very silly to me; if there is a <code><span>time</span></code> element, why not allow me to mark up any time or date?</p>
<p>The <a href="http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#the-time-element">spec for <code><span>time</span></code></a> does not mention the future event-only restriction: &#8220;The time element represents a precise date and/or a time in the proleptic Gregorian calendar&#8221; and gives three examples, two of which are about the past and none of which are &#8220;future events&#8221;. Although the spec doesn’t (currently) limit use of the element, it does limit format to precise dates in &#8220;the proleptic Gregorian calendar&#8221;. This means I can mark up an archive page for &#8220;all blog posts today&#8221; using time, but not &#8220;all July 2008 posts&#8221; as that’s not a full YYYY-MM-DD date. Neither can you mark up precise, but ancient dates, so the date of Julius Ceasar’s assassination, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ides_of_March">15 March 44 <abbr>BC</abbr></a> is not compatible.</p>

<li>Redesign your Web site once or twice a year.</li>
<li>Add 5 pages of content to your site every week.</li>
<li>Change the titles on your least successful pages twice a year.</li>
<li>Stop using keywords in your URLs.</li>
<li>Stop using keywords in your titles.</li>
<li>Find 3 SEO forums that accept site review requests and write 20 reviews in each forum before you ever ask a question.<span id="more-136"></span></li>
<li>Create your own SEO book by collecting your favorite SEO forum and blog posts, newsletter articles, and tech tips in a .PDF file that you review once a month.</li>
<li>Create a new SEO book once each year, replacing the one you just created in the previous step.</li>
<li>Optimize your best peforming page for the exact mirror of your targeted keyword expression (turn an ABCD page into a DCBA page).</li>
<li>Find 5 low-traffic blogs or forums that are consistently active and support them through comments, links, and referrals WITHOUT being self-promotional.</li>
<li>Write 10 blocks of ad copy (no more than 25 words each) every week. Place them on the Web where they won’t offend anyone.</li>
<li>Write 1 full-page announcement about your Web site each week. Post it some place where it won’t offend anyone.</li>
<li>Get a text editor like Wordpad (the fewer frills the better) and use it to code one of your Web pages from scratch.</li>
<li>Learn how to write Who, What, Where, When, and Why in 4 paragraphs or less.</li>
<li>Create a 1-page listing of 20 UNKNOWN Web sites you wish you had created. Post that page on your site.</li>
<li>Create a forum signature that does not promote your Web site. Put it into every forum profile you have created.</li>
<li>Design a 5-10 page Web site about a community project or charitable activity. Promote that site to number 1. Now repeat the process without changing or building more links for your first site.</li>
<li>Find a niche directory you have never heard of before that you feel is honestly listing unique, useful Web sites. Promote that niche directory through links and comments on your own sites until you see improvement in its Compete, Quantcast, and Alexa metrics.</li>
<li>Find a friend or relative who has no clue about Web sites and persuade him or her to create a Web site. You must restrain yourself and ONLY give advice on how to build and promote the site.</li>
<li>Define a metric that uses from three to five factors OTHER THAN Google PageRank, Alexa Rankings, Compete Rankings, Quantcast Rankings, and backlink counts. Use this metric to track five to ten sites you don’t control for six months.</li>
</ol>

If you want to build a strong character and advance through the game successfully, there are several things that<br />
you need to know.<span id="more-69"></span><br />
<strong>Combat</strong></p>
<p>Above all else, Vampire Wars is a combat game. After creating a character, you can be attacked by other players. You can even be attacked if you close the game and remain logged into Facebook. The more you play and level up, the more often you will be attacked. This can be bothersome, as attacks from other players cause you to you lose blood, skill points, health and even lives. So how does one deal with the combat system while maintaining an enjoyable gaming experience? Here are some tips and tricks to help you through the game:<br />
<strong><br />
Give your character a strong foundation</strong></p>
<p>When you begin Vampire Wars, you will start with 10 energy, 3 rage, 100 health and 6,000 blood. Your attack will be 1 and your defense will be 1. As you complete missions and level up, you will be awarded skill points. These skill points can be allocated to your attack, defense, energy, rage and health.</p>
<p>In the beginning, it is best to allocate points to your energy, which will allow you to earn blood and purchase abilities and minions. As you advance, you&#8217;re your character against other players and add to your attack and defense accordingly. If you want to fight immediately, allocate skill points to your rage, attack and defense.</p>
<p><strong>Grow your clan as fast as you can!</strong></p>
<p>The more clan members you have, the more abilities you can fight and defend with. You can fight and defend with up to 501 clan members, including yourself. Growing a large clan as quickly as you can is very beneficial because it will give you an edge over players with smaller clans. You will also have more clan members to assist you with missions, item bonuses, voting and more.</p>
<p>There are countless Facebook groups devoted to growing clans quickly. Join these groups and add as many clan members as you want. The process may be slow at first, but once you get the ball rolling, the friend requests will come streaming in.</p>
<p><strong>Getting minions</strong></p>
<p>Every minion that you dominate will increase your income. Invest in minions early to prepare yourself for buying higher level abilities, special limited edition abilities, items from the avatar shop and gaining magic power-ups from Mandy.</p>
<p>Every time you buy a minion, the new price for that minion will increase. It is best to buy minions in groups of 5 or 10, but preferably 10. This will save you great amounts of blood as you progress through the game.</p>
<p><strong><br />
Using zombie mode</strong></p>
<p>When a player is under 20 health, they are in &#8220;zombie mode&#8221;. A player under 20 health cannot be attacked, so use zombie mode to your advantage.</p>
<p>One technique for remaining unbothered while doing missions is to log into the game and immediately fight until you are under 20 health. When your health rises above 20, fight yourself under 20 again.</p>
<p>Another zombie mode technique can aid you in combat. Release a string of attacks, with your last attack leaving your health under 20. This takes some practice, and requires you to have an abundant supply of rage, so remember to allocate sufficient skill points to rage. Those who wish to attack you back or put you on the hitlist will not be able to do so, unless they can catch you when you are out of zombie mode.</p>
<p><strong>Avoid leveling up too quickly</strong></p>
<p>Those who focus on leveling up quickly can find themselves vulnerable among players with more powerful abilities and larger clans. The game can be very exciting, especially with the element of interactivity associated with Facebook, but try to progress slowly by exploring the other aspects of the game. Invest in minions, gamble with Mandy,</p>
<p><strong>Don&#8217;t forget to bank your blood</strong></p>
<p>Make it a point to deposit your blood earnings in the blood bank, and do this very frequently. When you bank your blood, 10% of that blood will be burned off and lost, but once this blood is banked, it cannot be taken away when you are attacked.</p>
<p><strong>Have no mercy!</strong></p>
<p>Ok, I know there is a lot of good guide to combat out there. So I am mostly going to offer links to those guides.</p>
<p>Here is one I like since it breaks down the math very well: <a onmousedown="UntrustedLink.bootstrap($(this), &quot;f3aa6a9233e7bc680251fa18638ed92a&quot;, event)" rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.zynga.com/showthread.php?t=130047" target="_blank"><span>http://forums.zynga.com/sh</span>owthread.php?t=130047</a>.</p>
<p>But if that is too much math, I will try to explain very simply.</p>
<p>You use different abilities to fight then you do to defend. The abilities used are the ones with the highest attack number when you fight, and the highest defense when you defend.</p>
<p>I think it is explain very well here: <a onmousedown="UntrustedLink.bootstrap($(this), &quot;f3aa6a9233e7bc680251fa18638ed92a&quot;, event)" rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.zynga.com/showthread.php?t=2761" target="_blank"><span>http://forums.zynga.com/sh</span>owthread.php?t=2761</a></p>
<p>Now, what is the quickest way to see what you use when you fight? Look at you stats page and what you see highlighted in red, and that is what is being used in fights.</p>
<p>What is the quickest way to know what you are using in defense? Have a clan mate look at your stat page and tell you which ones are highlighted in red.</p>
<p>To help players figure out I will start a discussion board with this topic.</p>
<p>I have help clanmates in the past and I will look at their stats page and take a screen shot with the firefox add-on Aviary. Here is a link to their software: <a onmousedown="UntrustedLink.bootstrap($(this), &quot;f3aa6a9233e7bc680251fa18638ed92a&quot;, event)" rel="nofollow" href="http://aviary.com/" target="_blank">http://aviary.com/</a>. This helps since they can always look back to see which abilities they are using, and I find it quicker then listing everything out.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Every webmaster knows that the free search engines are a major source of traffic. They also know that applying all the SEO techniques in the world will not in itself get their web pages spidered, indexed and listed. Yes, sure, a &#8220;perfect&#8221; page, once indexed and listed will surely rank high for its keywords but unless it is found by the spiders, it is pretty useless.<span id="more-58"></span><br />
It is no secret that the process of a web page being found by the spiders can be helped by placing links to that web site on other web sites (e.g. by doing a links exchange with other web sites, by putting one&#8217;s URL in one&#8217;s signature file when posting on a forum, by writing and submitting articles for free distribution and placing one&#8217;s URL in the author&#8217;s resource block etc.) All of this will surely work but it can take months before anything happens. The webmaster has no option but to be patient and wait&#8230;and wait&#8230;and wait.</p>
<p>Now there is something very easy and very effective one can do to speed up this process. Actually, using this method, will get a web page indexed and listed in less than 48 hours. And the whole process is controlled by the webmaster. It is easy, fast in terms of setting it all up and what&#8217;s more it is free!</p>
<p>Here is what one does:</p>
<p>* Go to <a href="http://www.blogger.com/" target="_blank">http://www.blogger.com</a> and sign up for a new account (free &#8211; they even host the blog on their server at no cost)<br />
* Give your blog a name &#8211; make a note of this for later use.<br />
* Navigate to &#8216;Settings&#8217; and then choose &#8216;Site Feed&#8217;<br />
* Check that the &#8216;Publish Site Feed&#8217; option is set to &#8216;Yes&#8217;<br />
* Copy the &#8216;Site Feed URL&#8217; to the clip board (you can paste it some where .. you&#8217;re going to use it when you&#8217;ve set up your my.yahoo account)<br />
* Save your changes<br />
* Navigate to &#8216;Posting&#8217; and create your first entry.<br />
* What should you write? Anything, actually &#8211; your words do not make that much of a difference. What is important is that you add the URL of each page you want listed to the blog. Remember to add them as live links (to enable all the spiders to follow them!)</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t know how to do a live link? Here is an example. Just copy the HTML code</p>
<div style="margin: 5px 20px 20px;">
<div style="margin-bottom: 2px;">Code:</div>
<pre style="border: 1px inset; margin: 0px; padding: 2px; overflow: auto; width: 640px; height: 34px; text-align: left;" dir="ltr"> &lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.babygore.com" target="_blank"&gt;link to BabyGore&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</pre>
</div>
<p>Replace the URL with your URL and the description (&#8220;link to BabyGore&#8221; with your own.</p>
<p>* Publish your blog by hitting the &#8216;Publish&#8217; button.</p>
<p>Sorry, we&#8217;re not done yet&#8230;</p>
<p>* Now you have to go to <a href="http://www.yahoo.com/" target="_blank">http://www.yahoo.com</a> and open a My Yahoo! account. Just follow Yahoo&#8217;s very clear instructions.<br />
* Click on the &#8216;Add Content&#8217; button.<br />
* Click the &#8216; Add RSS by URL&#8217; link.<br />
* Paste the &#8216;Site Feed URL&#8217; you&#8217;ve copied earlier in the &#8216;URL&#8217; field and<br />
* hit &#8216;Add&#8217;</p>
<p>You have just added your site&#8217;s news feed to your My Yahoo! account. Don&#8217;t be concerned if the actual feed doesn&#8217;t come through immediately &#8211; it can take quite a while on My.Yahoo to see the latest feed.</p>
<p>* Last step: go to <a href="http://www.pingomatic.com/" target="_blank">http://www.pingomatic.com</a><br />
* Enter your blog&#8217;s name and URL (similar to mine: <a href="http://www.babygore.com" target="_blank">http://www.babygore.com</a>)<br />
* Select all the services to ping (of which My Yahoo! is one) and click the &#8216;Submit Pings&#8217; button.<br />
* Navigate back to your My Yahoo! account and refresh your browser.<br />
* Scroll to the bottom of the page where you&#8217;ll see your blog&#8217;s feed appearing.</p>
<p>Your job is done &#8211; the spider bait is ready!</p>
<p>Now for a bit of excitement. Start watching your web site&#8217;s stat&#8217;s to see how quickly the spiders find their way to your web site. You could even throw a free stats counter on your blog and watch the spiders visiting your blog.</p>
<p>Next step: Play &#8220;blog-and-ping&#8221; every day or so. More often if you have the time! Whenever you feel like it, add another posting to your blog. Remember to throw in some links to specific pages on your web site.</p>

<li>how much you visit your dragon</li>
<li>how much other people visit your dragon</li>
<li>items equipped on your dragon</li>
</ul>
<p>If you don&#8217;t visit your Dragonpage for some time, the dragons will slowly grow less and eventualy stop growing. Be sure to always visit your dragons so they don&#8217;t get lonely. There is a <strong>LIMIT</strong> on how much your own page visits affect your dragon, so refreshing your Dragonpage <span style="text-decoration: underline;">WILL NOT</span> make your dragons grow any faster after you exceeded the set daily limit.</p>
<p>Of course, other people will visit your dragon as well and that will make your dragon grow a bit faster. Though there&#8217;s a <strong>DAILY LIMIT</strong> of how much other peoples visits influence dragon growth. This means that after your pageviews passed this limit, they won&#8217;t contribute to your dragons growth at all. <strong>Please don&#8217;t ask others to visit your dragon.</strong></p>
<p>We set these limits so that if you refresh your Dragonpage or someone else refreshes your Dragonpage all the time, it <span style="text-decoration: underline;">WON&#8217;T</span> make your dragon grow faster after it exceeds the set limit. <strong>This is to prevent people from exploiting the system with refreshing.</strong></p>

<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Dragon Resources and Production</strong></div>
</div>
<p>As your dragons grow in level, which is displayed as a percentage on your Dragonpage, they produce more resources. The production of resources is displayed <span style="text-decoration: underline;">per day</span> and it rises as your dragon level rises.</p>
<p>The production of your dragon is influenced by one thing, how much you feed your dragon. If you don&#8217;t feed him/her, the production will reduce and eventually the dragon will stop producing resources, it will reach zero.</p>
<p><strong>RESOURCES</strong> such as Aura, Fur, and Scales are currency here on DragonAdopters. Each dragon produces two resources, aura and a secondary resource. The aura produced is based upon the dragon element and the type of scales or fur produced is based upon the dragon species. Resources are used to purchase food and materials, create items and exchange them on the Item Market or trade for other resources on the Resource Market.</p>
<p>All dragon eggs produce</p>
<div style="display: inline; color: purple;">white aura</div>
<p>. When your dragon hatches you may choose his/her element. Once your dragon&#8217;s element is chosen your dragon will start to produce the aura corresponding to that element.</p>
<div style="display: inline; color: blue;"><strong>Every dragon produces two kinds of resources:</strong></div>
<ul>
<li><strong>primary resource</strong> &#8211; Aura &#8211; depends on your dragon&#8217;s element</li>

<div style="display: inline; font-size: 14pt;">
<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Your Dragonpage</strong></div>
</div>
<p>Now let us proceed onto your <strong>Dragonpage</strong>. When you login, you&#8217;ll see your avatar image to the left with your username right above it. Next to your username will be the Adopt button so you can get your own dragon. Once you click on it, follow the instructions and adopt a <strong>dragon egg</strong>.</p>
<p>Your dragons are displayed on the tab right above the resources images. When you click on the dragon name in that tab, you&#8217;ll be guided to that dragons Dragonpage. The Dragonpage has all the information about your dragon, items equipped, status messages and item effects.</p>
<p>On the left you&#8217;ll see the <strong>main menu</strong> of the game and on the right are polls and news tabs. Our main focus will be on the game main menu which we&#8217;ll go through in the following game guide sections.</p>
<hr />
<div style="display: inline; font-size: 14pt;">
<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Your Account</strong></div>
</div>
<p>In the STATUS section of the main menu you&#8217;ll see buttons regarding your account. My Account button enables you to upload your own <strong>Avatar</strong> and change your password. Also you&#8217;ll see on the top the permissions you have.</p>
<p>The <em>Game Messages</em> button is for ingame status messages, for example when your market offer has been accepted you&#8217;ll get a message. Sending <em>Personal Messages</em> is also available ingame, but please <strong>DO NOT</strong> spam other users asking to visit your Dragonpage.</p>
<p>You are also able to have your own Friends list ingame where you can see when your friends were last online and send them PMs.</p>
<hr />
<div style="display: inline; font-size: 14pt;">
<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Dragon Care</strong></div>
</div>
<p>The first button in the main menu is the Dragon Care. This is where you feed your dragons. On the left you can see how much <strong>Dragon Food</strong> you have. You&#8217;re able to buy the food from the <strong>Buy Materials</strong> tab. You can use any resource to buy food. Next to the dragon food icon you can see all your dragons, their levels, status and how much food they&#8217;re consuming.</p>
<p>To feed the dragon you just need to enter the number of food (units) you want to give your dragon and click <em>Feed Dragons</em>. You can feed several dragons at once by giving each some food. In the <em>Amount</em> tab you&#8217;ll see how much food your dragons are consuming. Each dragon has a maximum amount of food it can carry, which depends on the dragon level. Older dragons can carry more food and they eat more too.</p>
<p>It is neccesary to feed your dragons, otherwise after 24 hours of no feeding they will become hungry and start to produce less resources than normal. After a longer period of time with no food, they will STOP producing resources completely. It would be a good idea for your dragons to <span style="text-decoration: underline;">always</span> carry some food. The best thing you can do it stockpile your dragons with as much food as they can carry.</p>
<hr />
<div style="display: inline; font-size: 14pt;">
<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>General Inventory and Dragon Inventory</strong></div>
</div>
<p>The <strong>My Inventory</strong> has <span style="text-decoration: underline;">20 slots</span>. Items, Gems and special items go into these slots. <strong>Be careful not to make your inventory full, otherwise you will be unable to create new items or buy new items from the Item Market.</strong><br />
If your inventory is full and the 5 days limit on the Item Market has expired and your item needs to be returned to your inventory, it will be unable to return to the inventory because it is full. Instead the Item Market will send your item to the Factory and sell it for white aura.</p>
<p>You can see 4 icons on the top: <em>Dragon Food, Metal, Silk</em> and <em>Leather</em>. The amount of food and materials you have are displayed under the image.</p>
<p>After you create or buy an item, it will go into My Inventory. This doesn&#8217;t mean your dragon has the items nor gets bonus effects. You need to give your items to any of your dragons by just selecting the dragon you want to equip that item to. After you do that, the dragon will gain bonus effects from the items, which is described in detail on the <em>Item Effects</em> tab, just below the <em>Status Messages</em> on your Dragonpage.</p>
<p>The <strong>Dragon Inventory</strong> is displayed with 6 boxes around your dragon picture on your Dragonpage. Each dragon has their species specific items and universal items. Every dragon can carry <strong>maximum 6 items</strong>. More about species specific items you can find later in this guide.</p>
<p>When you equip the items to your dragon, it will gain a boost as described in the item details. The item effect boost only affects the dragon they&#8217;re equiped to. If you want your other dragons getting a boost, you&#8217;ll need to equip items on them too.</p>

<p>There are different Gem Stones which you need to create items with a specific level. You can buy Gem Stones via the <strong>Buy Gems</strong> tab.</p>
<p>Gems represent which level item you&#8217;re trying to create and the color of the Gem Stones is determined by which colored aura you bought the gem with. An item created from a Gem Stone will have the same color as the Gem Stone. Items that don&#8217;t require Gem Stones to create them, do require aura in the creation process and those items will have the same color as the aura you used to create them.</p>

<p><strong>Species specific items</strong> are items that can be worn only be a certain dragon species, which are listed above. For example, a Furdragon cannot wear the bracelets, just like the Western dragon cannot wear a scarf, etc.</p>
<p>A dragon can only wear the item if the level of the dragon is same or higher than the level of the item. <em>Example:</em> A level 15 dragon can&#8217;t wear a level 20 item, but the same dragon can wear a level 10 item. High level dragons can normaly wear lower level items than the dragon&#8217;s level.</p>

<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Creating Items</strong></div>
</div>
<p>Creating items is one of the most important parts and goals of this game. In order to create items you will need materials which you can buy from the appropriate tabs on your Dragonpage. First thing you do is select the item you want to create and the level. After that click <em>Next Step</em>. In the next menu you can see what materials and how much resources are needed to create certain items. Of course, the higher the level of the item, the more expensive and hard it is to create it.</p>

<div style="display: inline; color: blue;"><strong>There are two kinds of items:</strong></div>
<ul>
<li><strong>normal item</strong> &#8211; gives resource boosts</li>
<li><strong>special item</strong> &#8211; gives various special effects</li>
</ul>
<p>Special items are much harder to get than normal items obviously. There&#8217;s a <strong>random chance</strong> in the creation process that you&#8217;ll get a normal or special item and also what kind of boost you&#8217;ll get and how much % it&#8217;s gonna be.</p>
<p>There are also <strong>SUCCESS RATES</strong> involved in creating items. They will be displayed in the menu before you create the item. These rates are the chance you have to create the item successfully. This means that sometimes you will succeed in creating an item and sometimes you will fail. In either case you will lose the resources and materials you spent into the creation process.</p>
<p>You can either equip your dragon with the items you created or sell them on the Item Market. If you just can&#8217;t seem to sell your items on the Item Market because nobody bought them, then you can always sell your item to the Factory via the <strong>Sell to Factory</strong> tab on the left.</p>

<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Item Effects</strong></div>

<p>You can add maximum <span style="text-decoration: underline;">5 offers</span> on the <strong>Resource Market</strong> at one time. You can set the amount of resource you offer and want by simply typing in a number in the indicated box. After you&#8217;re satisfied with the numbers, click <em>Add Offer</em>. Below that you can see all the currently placed offers on the market, the player who put it, how much he/she offers and wants in return and how long the offer has been on the market. The Status tabs displays if you have enough resources to accept the offer.</p>
<p>You can add maximum <span style="text-decoration: underline;">10 items</span> on the <strong>Item Market</strong>. In the indicated dropdown menu <em>Select Item</em> you&#8217;re able to see all your items in your inventory. You select an item you want to auction on the market and set the price and resource you want for it. When you&#8217;re ready, just click <em>Add Item</em> and the item will be transfered from the My Inventory to the Item Market. Below that you can see all the currently placed items on the market, the seller, item descriptions and how much resources the seller wants for the item. The Status tab displays if you have enough resources to buy the item and if you have enough room in your General Inventory.</p>
<p>Offers on both markets last for <strong>5 days</strong>. After that your resources and items are returned to you. <strong>Remember, your inventory must not be full when the offer on the Item Market expires.</strong></p>
<div style="display: inline; font-size: 12pt;">
<div style="display: inline; color: blue;"><strong>MARKET LIMITERS:</strong></div>
</div>
<p>In order to prevent people from taking too much advantage of the markets, there are limiters in place on both markets. The <strong>daily limit</strong> is <span style="text-decoration: underline;">50 offers</span> on the Item Market and <span style="text-decoration: underline;">30 offers</span> on the Resource Market.</p>
<p><strong>Each offer you add on any market and each offer you accept from any market is counted as 1.</strong> So every time you add an offer on the market it&#8217;s counted as 1, whether it expires or it was accepted by another player or you removed it. If another player accepts your offer, his/her counter is raised by 1, not yours. But if YOU accept another players offer, your own counter goes up by 1.</p>
<p>Be careful when you put up your offers. Making a mistake and then deleting the offer only to make a new one, will lead to both offers being counted.</p>

<div style="display: inline; font-size: 14pt;">
<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Factory</strong></div>
</div>
<p>You are able to buy materials and dragon food from the factory via the <em>Buy Gems</em> and <em>Buy Materials</em> tabs. <strong>You cannot buy items this way.</strong> However you&#8217;re able to sell items to the factory via the <em>Sell to factory</em> tab.</p>
<p>The Sell to Factory tab enables you to sell your items when you aren&#8217;t able to sell it on the Item Market. You just select the item you want to sell and which resource you want for it.</p>
<p>Items sold in the factory will be pretty cheap, thus won&#8217;t earn you much resources. That&#8217;s why it is recommended you put your item on auction on the Item Market so that other players can buy it for your own set price.</p>

<div style="display: inline; font-size: 14pt;">
<div style="display: inline; color: green;"><strong>Dragon Lottery</strong></div>
</div>
<p>You&#8217;ll see this feature right below the dragon inventory on other players Dragonpages. <strong>You can only see Dragon Lottery on other players dragons, NOT your own dragons.</strong></p>
<p>This feature motivates players to visit other peoples dragons in order to play the lottery. You can play it only 5 times in 24 hours and each time you&#8217;ll be offered with a reward based on your Ranking. After someone plays the lottery on another players dragon, it will be disabled for 12 hours. After that period the lottery will be enabled again.</p>
<p>There are two types of <strong>Dragon Lottery</strong>. One is throwing a coin, heads or tails. One will get you a prize, one will get you nothing. And second type is throwing a dice. Some numbers will get you various prizes and some numbers will get you nothing.</p>
<p>Good luck with the lottery!</p>

<div style="display: inline; font-size: 12pt;"><span style="color: blue;"><strong>Buying backgrounds</strong></span></div>
<p><strong>Where to go to buy a background</strong><br />
You can buy backgrounds by going to the “Buy Backgrounds” tab. You have many different sorting options available to browse for the backgrounds you might wish to buy, these include sorting by the user name that created them (see “Uploading your own backgrounds”)</p>
<p><strong>How to buy a background</strong><br />
You will have the option to join in an already existing auction, or if there isn’t one already started you can start a new auction on a background of your choice. Each auction will last 6 hours.</p>
<p><strong>The starting auction prices</strong><br />
The price of a background starts at 100 of a randomly chosen resource set by the game. Each time an auction is completed the background starting price is increased by 10. The price decreases by 10 every 48 hours without an auction.</p>
<p><strong>What happens once you have placed a bid</strong><br />
Once you have placed your bid you will be kept updated on your auction bid via the “Game Messages” tab. If someone makes a higher bid than yourself your aura will be returned to you and a message will be sent to your “Game Messages” box. You will then have the option to make a higher bid should you wish. Once the auction finishes, and if your bid has won, you will be sent a “Game message” advising you that your background is now available in your background inventory (see “Customize your dragon background”)</p>
<p><strong>Reporting a background</strong><br />
If you see a background that appears to be breaking any of the background image rules, has copyrighted material used in its creation, stolen art, any sexual content, violence or any kind of offensive content, please report it. You can report the background by clicking on the “start auction” button and you will see “Report this background”. Please remember to give your reasons and any links to evidence to your report.</p>
<div style="display: inline; font-size: 12pt;"><span style="color: blue;"><strong>Customizing your dragon background</strong></span></div>
<p><strong>Where to find your new background</strong><br />
Once you have bought a background you can add it to any of your dragons by going to the “Customize Dragonpage” tab. Here you will see all the dragon/item backgrounds you have bought and be able to add them to any of your dragons. You even have the option to change the colour of your Dragon sheet! Your background inventory can hold up to 25 item, and 25 dragon backgrounds.</p>
<p><strong>Adding a background to your dragon/s</strong><br />
Under SETTINGS you will see each of your dragons’ names and be able to select a background from the drop down list as well as set the colour for their Dragon sheet. Once you have finished changing all the settings click on “Update backgrounds”.</p>
<p><strong>Deleting backgrounds</strong><br />
If you find you do not like a background and wish to delete it you can use the “Deleted selected background”. But be warned, once you delete a background from your profile you cannot get it back unless you buy another one.</p>
<hr />
<div style="display: inline; font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Uploading your own backgrounds</strong></div>
<p><strong>Uploading backgrounds is now available!</strong><br />
Once approved for uploading privileges(please go <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.dragonadoptersforum.com/forum/index.php?board=41.0">here</a> to get approved) you can now upload your own background creations. Once uploaded, they are added to the background auctions and members are able to bid on your background. Although you will not receive the aura proceeds made by sales of your background, you will get your background free after a total of 10 successful auctions.</p>
<p><strong>Background sizes</strong><br />
File size for background images are as follows:</p>
<ul>
<li>Dragon background<br />
Only jpg, png with the exact size of 183&#215;122 Pixels.<br />
File size no larger than 50 KB!</li>
<li>Items background<br />
Only jpg, png with the exact size of 127&#215;386 Pixels.<br />
File size no larger than 100 KB!</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>How to upload your background designs</strong><br />
To upload your own designs go to the “Upload Backgrounds” tab. You can select which type of background you wish to upload with the option to upload a full item/background set in one go if you wish, this option is best if you have the full set. Once you have selected the images from your files you can see a preview of your background/s by using the “Preview” button. If you do decide to preview your backgrounds you will need to reselect your images from your files to proceed with the actual upload. Remember to give your backgrounds a name and confirm you have read the agreement for uploading images before you finally get to upload your background/s. Your background/s will now be available to buy in the background auctions.</p>
<p><strong>Upload limit</strong><br />
You will only be able to make one upload per image and will have to wait 24 hours between image uploads. This is to help prevent people spamming the background market.</p>
